Student Trainee (Admin/Ofc Mgmt)

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. - Increase knowledge and understanding of VHA and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. - Increase knowledge, skill, and ability in health care management (e.g., resource administration, human resources administration, program evaluation and assessment, and community relations). - Increase knowledge and understanding of research program objectives and goals. - Increase knowledge of and gained experience with VHA and thereby determine the viability of VHA as a valid career option for the trainee. - Interacts with health care system staff. - Attends committee and staff meetings. - Reviews policies and health care system memoranda. - Applies quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques to determine feasibility, financial viability, and resource availability of research initiatives. - Prepares responses to correspondence. - Participates in local budget development and execution. - Participates in developmental projects and studies. - Plans research activities for the facility (e.g., Research Week, Translational Research Forums) Work Schedule:

To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a half-time to full-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. NOTE:
YOU MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF ENROLLMENT ON A HALF-TIME to FULL-TIME BASIS OR ACCEPTANCE OF ENROLLMENT AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION - FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN LOST OF CONSIDERATION. This position will be filled at the GS- 5 grade level. To qualify, the applicant must first meet the minimum requirements listed above. Grade determinations will be based on the below criteria. GS-5:
Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. Academic year-- An academic year is computed as follows:
At the undergraduate level, successfully completed education that has not led to possession of a degree is credited based on its relationship to 120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours. For example, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. Additional credit cannot be given for duplicate course work. For study at a business or technical school, 36 weeks of study (20
classroom hours per week) is comparable to 1 academic year above high school. An academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 academic year of full-time study. This determination is made based on normal course loads for a full year of study in the graduate program. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. When academic credit is expressed in contract months, units, or other terms that differ from conventional semester or quarter hours, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide an interpretation of such credits from the appropriate institution in order to equate them to the semester or quarter hours specified in the standard. However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. A minimum (2.5) cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) per semester/quarter, in good standing with the education institution, must be maintained for the education institution, must be maintained for the education institution, must be maintained for the duration of this PATHWAYS excepted service appointment. GPA must be provided in the transcripts. Must be able to complete 640 hours of work experience prior to completing degree course work requirements to be considered for conversion. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
