Health Science Specialist

NOTE:
This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 3 years). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Your duties can include but are not limited to the following:
Implements protocol and/or data abstraction, data collection, and data management procedures related to Genomic Medicine. Gathers statistical and narrative data on project status, including resource utilization, statistical data on participation, and adherence to study protocols on matters such as participant education and study interventions. Organizes data collection processes, statistical analysis and data management, summarizing research data using computerized programs. Establishes, coordinates, monitors, and manages outcomes based research and analyses. Utilizes Perl, Python and R to develop data analysis programs. Datasets include genotype and clinical phenotype data, and external datasets (e.g., claims data, national death index, geo-spatial databanks, UKBiobank, ENCODE, GTEx). Maintains records on planned analysis, interim results and final analysis. Plans project management approach for ERIC initiatives; conducts complete evaluations of planned work which includes an evaluation of the research plan, securing access to data from the appropriate sources, such as patient medical records, sequenced genomic data, and other public health databases, formulation of the analysis plan, management and documentation of data, and interpretation of results and report of findings. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

MUST possess a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university with a major in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) AND SPECIALIZED
Experience:
MUST possess one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health Science Specialist position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes:
working experience in an organization's research program, particularly in health services, epidemiologic, and clinical research, and requires the ability to use creativity and critical independent judgment to ensure the research is conducted rigorously and ethically and in accordance with all federal regulations governing the conduct of human subjects' research; possessing the knowledge and skill in the design and implementation of research, including study design, sampling, recruitment, retention, database management, data collection, data analysis, and data interpretation; possessing knowledge of the principles and procedures within the area of epidemiology and genomic research; planning, developing and completing required documentation/paperwork/forms to applicable Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) for initial and continuing human subjects review; evaluates and ensures planned research is compliant with human research protection policy; possessing knowledge and skills in the use of statistical and database software, e.g., SAS, ACCESS, to set up databases and perform complex data analyses; and ability to perform complex analytical studies and interpretation of results to coordinate the evaluation of medical/scientific programs and policies and to recommend improvements; establishing, coordinating, monitoring, and managing outcomes based research and analyses; utilizing Perl, Python and R to develop data analysis programs. datasets include genotype and clinical phenotype data, and external datasets (e.g., claims data, national death index, geo-spatial databanks, UKBiobank, ENCODE, GTEx). MUST possessa Masters' or equivalent graduate degree with a major in a field appropriate to the work of this position to qualify at the GS-11 grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (Transcript Required) OR Combination of Education and

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
