This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Will serve in a Student Trainee position and is responsible for administrative management services that relate to GRECC's Programs. Receives on-the-job training and experiences from and provides administrative support to the Administrative Officer Special projects supporting programs such as the Office of Rural Health Geri Scholars and GRECC Connect Programs, the Office of Academic Affiliations' VA/Stanford Geriatric Medicine Fellowship and Advanced Geriatric Fellowships in Medicine and Allied Health, Research administrative support and Clinical Programs and Demonstrations medical administrative support. Administrative duties involve communications through Memos, Outlook calendar, emails and WebEx, Microsoft Teams Instant Messaging and Video Conferencing, various data mining projects, assisting with the creation and analysis of databases, electronic slide presentations, providing information and reports related to the Veteran's Health Care System in Palo Alto. Assist with researching policies and editing of communications produced, supplies procurement and tracking data as needed. Will meet with a Mentor on areas of interest to expand knowledge of communications, administrative management, and veterans' health care. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

Primary duty is the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer/employer's customers. This temporary not to exceed (NTE) one year appointment may be extended without further competition. In addition, within (120) days after an Intern's successful completion of course of a course of academic study, a VA facility may convert that Intern non-competitively from the Internship Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service, provided that all terms of 5 CFR 362.204 are met and there is an available position. However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed.A minimum (2.5) cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) per semester/quarter, in good standing with the education institution, must be maintained for the education institution, must be maintained for the education institution, must be maintained for the duration of this PATHWAYS excepted service appointment. GPA must be provided in the transcripts. Must be able to complete 640 hours of work experience prior to completing degree course work requirements to be considered for conversion. If selected, student must sign a VAPAHCS Internship Program Participant Agreement and provide official transcripts at the end of each academic term. If selectee is converted, the student may be converted into a career ladder.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
