As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be part of Tesla Reliability engineering group responsible for performing failure analysis in support of new product development as well as field returns. Communicate failure details and root cause analysis to key stakeholders. Drive closed loop preventive & corrective actions to continuously improve our product design and manufacturing to continue delighting our customers. Level of this position will be determined at the time of the interview.
Responsibilities:
Conduct hands-on failure analysis by effectively utilizing necessary analytical techniques. Assure that root causes are identified at the most detailed level.
Create concise failure analysis reports with exceptional visualizations and present findings to cross-functional project teams.
Collaborate with reliability testing to recreate failure modes that are intermittent or hard to replicate. Utilize environmental testing equipment and other methods to be able to precipitate failures as a precursor to in depth failure analysis.
Create a failure analysis workflow for failure modes into failure analysis and provide expert input on root cause, its relevance to the field and the best path in terms of addressing the finding with the design teams and countermeasure validation.
Maintain FA lab equipment as required and ensure internal staff are properly trained.
Requirements:
Knowledge and hands on experience with failure analysis and materials characterization techniques such as:
Root cause analysis
Electrical testing and characterization (multimeter, curve tracer, oscilloscope, TDR)
Temperature characterization, thermal imaging
Optical microscope, real time X-ray, CT, SAM, decapsulation, cross sectioning, dye and pry, SEM/EDS, FIB, FTIR, XRF)
Experience working on failure modes of complex electro-mechanical systems.
Deep understanding of physics of failure mechanism theories.
Excellent communication skills
B.S. in Materials Science, EE, ME, Physics with industry experience; M.S. or higher is preferred
