The Role
Tesla is seeking an exceptional Mechanical Engineer who is motivated to change the world. In this role you will help to define the mechanical architecture of Tesla's energy products including the Powerpack and Powerwall. You will manage the top level CAD of the products, help to define interfaces, and proactively recognize and drive resolution of conflicts. You will juggle conflicting interests and requirements and support integration activities to drive a balanced and coherent product.
Responsibilities
Mechanical design and packaging of components to meet system requirements while optimizing for cost, weight, efficiency, manufacturability and serviceability
Develop product level mechanical architecture
Define and manage interfaces between systems / engineers
Recognize integration conflicts and drive resolution with the responsible engineers
Support and execution of virtual builds in preparation for physical prototype builds
Support the release process with engineering and PLM.
Support programs through the entire life cycle including; design, prototype builds, vehicle test, and production
CAD top level management for all product variants
Drive CAD best practices and serve as a CAD resource to the team
Campion and pilot the roll out of new CAD software and improved release processes within the team
Requirements
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering - all experience levels considered
Outstanding design, packaging and 3D modeling skills - CATIA preferred
Great people skills and the ability to work across organizations to elicit requirements and solve problems
Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult design problems with tight timing constraints
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools
Experience managing a BOM of dozens to hundreds of parts
Passion for clean energy and energy efficiency
Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Hands on experience with physical projects for college graduates preferred. (ie. Formula SAE/EcoCar/Solar competitions)
