Pharmacy Technician/000000DUTIES:
The primary duty site will be the Palo Alto campus; however, this technician will be scheduled to cover vacancies, vacations, maternity leave, and other extended leave of technicians at any of the pharmacies within the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Livermore, San Jose, Monterey).
The Pharmacy Technician will perform inpatient and outpatient pharmacy technician duties.
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Unit dose assignment involves filling and delivering new medication ordersrestocking ward stock medications, AcuDose, PacMed, and Med Carousel machinesrepackaging bulk items into specific quantitiesfilling 2-3 day cart exchangeperforming monthly medication inspections of all wards/clinics IV room assignment involves preparing IV admixtures and piggybacks using sterile techniques in the laminar flow hood, in accordance with USP 797 requirementsperforming all necessary pharmaceutical calculationsselecting appropriate productscompleting necessary administrative proceduresdelivering medications Outpatient pharmacy assignment involvesselecting medication from the shelfcounting the correct number of medications or medical suppliesprepackaging, reconstituting, labeling as indicated for the prescription orderdelivering medications to patient care wards and Mental Health Clinic Controlled substance assignment involvesselecting medication from the shelfcounting the correct number of medicationslabeling as indicatedrestocking AcuDose machinesconducting required inventories and maintaining perpetual inventoryperforming administrative paperwork Procurement assignment involves independently placing orders via the Prime Vendor on-line computer system for all medications, supplies, IV and irrigation solutionsresolves supply availability problems by selecting alternative cost-effective drug choices when possibleverifying all incoming stock against vendor's invoices to ensure that the correct items have been received intact and are not expiredstocking and labeling shelvesmaintaining adequate stock of pharmaceuticals and supplies, avoiding out-of-stock situations due to inadequate ordering practices or inadequate ordering intervalsdoes not overstock and manages stock levels so that stock turns over at the pre-determined rate.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
