Our client, an independent scientific research organization, is looking for a Head of Finance to play an important leadership role in their growth over the coming years.
LOCATION: Palo Alto, CA Hybrid capacity, minimum 3 days/week in office.
Job Description:
You will work closely with our client's founders, their Core Investigators, Technology Centers, and operations leaders to build great tools and systems, manage their financial priorities, and make critical strategic decisions.
You will manage a small team and serve on their senior leadership team, reporting to the COO.
Responsibilities:Provide advanced subject matter expertise and guidance regarding all finance-related decisions for an organization in fast growth and with a high level of structural complexity
Manage the finance organization, delivering FP&A and other day to day finance needsWork closely with thei client's Core Labs and Technology Centers to help them understand their budgets and spend, supporting thoughtful and impactful procurementBuild a long term roadmap for the finance team and set ambitious strategic goals in our quarterly planning processLead critical projects including annual non-profit audit, tax filings, annual budget and headcount process, and transactions including investment in spinouts and IP licensing dealsUpgrade the client's procurement and pricing strategy to ensure efficient use of their multi-million dollar annual spendCollaborate with the client's University Relations and Legal teams to manage external grants to their affiliates and partnersWork with the client's donors to provide updates and financial projections to ensure smooth cash flowPartner with other leaders on their leadership team to set organizational priorities, build a strong culture, and make critical decisions.REQUIREMENTS: Educational background in finance, accounting, economics, or business
10 years of experience in complicated corporate or academic finance environments with FP&A leadership experience.5 years experience as a people managerExpertise with financial software systems, including implementing, using, and improving an ERPStrength in modeling for and reporting to stakeholders with minimal finance contextExceptional communication and interpersonal skillsComfort working independently in a fast-paced startup environmentUnderstanding of lab environments and academic or biotechnology operations is a plus.COMPENSATION:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: Up to $250K base plus 30% bonus. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
